Negative: No longer a Best Western Signature hotel and it showed. Although no major issues, as indicated by the relatively high "face" scores above, much was just not quite as good as it had been on previous stays and a couple of issues so grated that the overall score was pulled down considerably. Staff were absolutely fine, but I felt that they were just going through the motions. A £50 security deposit, only announced after the room had been paid for, was a new policy, possibly correlating with an increased presence of children and dogs. A security deposit on an ordinary hotel room is rare, (this hotel is now part of a wedding venue business group), and I certainly don't expect to find torn curtains in a room for which an extra £50 has just been secured. Not much put off by children, but dogs should not be in hotel eating and drinking areas, nor core rooms, and when I step out of the main hotel entrance, to enjoy a rare warm evening, I do not expect to be forced back inside by an overwhelming smell of dog sh...
Summary: Not my first stay, but probably my last.
