Start the day with an early morning dip in the sea, then enjoy deliciously buttery croissants for breakfast by the pool. Stock up with local produce at the daily covered market in the village of Bois-Plage; Enjoy a leisurely lunch on the terrace, or head to one of the many oyster shacks on the cycle paths; Discover the many villages of Ile de Ré, each with its own vibe and all within cycling distance; Nip over to the beach, for a quick dip, a long walk, or cocktails on the beach, it’s only 2 minutes away! Or take a nap by the poolside, surrounded by majestic umbrella pine trees, to the sound of waves drifting from behind the dunes. Dinner can be enjoyed outdoors in front of an open fire on the covered terrace adjoining the living room.
There is much to do and discover on the island if you can tear yourself away from the villa: The World Heritage port of Saint-Martin is only 20mn by bike for a spot of shopping; The village of La Flotte with its beautifully preserved medieval market, and the ruins of the Cistercian Abbaye des Chateliers beyond; Ars and its landmark black and white church spire. Not to mention the network of cycle paths along the North coast and through the salt marshes. You will find these, and many more, documented in our detailed house book.
The house has been designed to invite the light indoors, through large scale windows to the East, West and South. The villa is structured as an H, with the living space connected to the bedrooms via a glazed gallery housing a well-stock library. The living space wing, totalling over 1,000 square feet, incorporates the kitchen at one end, separated from the dining area by a glazed partition. Opposite is an open fireplace, in front of which sits a modular Mahjong sofa from which to watch television. There is a formal arrangement of sofas in the middle of the room for cocktail hour or entertaining and a massive table seating twelve next to the kitchen. The kitchen is a cook’s delight, equipped with Gaggenau oven and fridge. Even the crockery has been specially selected to be both smart and unfussy, like the rest of the house.
Elsewhere, the master suite opens onto its own paved courtyard. It covers 430 square feet, and incorporates a separate study as well as a huge bathroom. Two further bedrooms, each with their own shower room and desk, make up the rest of the accommodation in the main house. The garden annex has been designed in harmony with a wooded environment, with timber cladding and painted timber floors. The two bedrooms have large French windows opening onto the pool, offer lovely views of the garden and share a shower room and separate WC.
All bedrooms except for the master suite can be made up as either twin or double. Every bedroom is equipped with its own built-in wardrobe and desk for those occasions when one has to revise or do some work. The house has very reliable fibre broadband, with both Wifi and cabled internet access.
The main garden, has been designed to tie in with the dune surroundings and is filled with mostly evergreen Mediterranean plants and herbs (feel free to help yourself to thyme, rosemary or lemon verbena). Situated at the back of the property, it's secluded and sheltered from the prevailing winds (a game-changer when the wind is from the North). A real sun trap, it's in the sun from the morning hours until 6pm.A large ipe timber deck surrounds the pool, with six sun loungers to soak up the rays. The pool is long enough to do laps and comes with an electric safety cover. There is a pétanque range on the grounds (and a set of boules). If you find yourself with a spare moment, there is a babyfoot table in the house; a ping-pong table in the garage; and a running machine. For our young guests we keep sand toys in the garage, and we have our own folding cot and high-chair.
The pool is heated from April to the end of October. We supply sheets and towels: beds will be made on arrival and changed weekly. There is a washing machine and dryer in the garage.

La villa est située dans une emplacement exceptionnel, à quelques mètres de l’accès à la plage des Brémaudières, dans un secteur calme et préservé du Bois-Plage.
Conçue par un architecte renommé de l’Ile de Ré, cette villa contemporaine est tout à la fois chic et chaleureuse, meublée avec un goût affirmé à l’image de ses propriétaires qui ont su imprimer leur style tout en respectant les codes architecturaux rétais.
Durant la conception de cette maison de famille, tout a été pensé pour tirer parti de l’environnement exceptionnel de cette belle parcelle, située en deuxième ligne, à l’abri de la dune et entourée de majestueux pins parasols. Le coeur de la maison – un espace de vie spectaculaire de quelques cent mètres carrés avec de grandes ouvertures transversales - donne sur le jardin principal à l'ouest et sur une cour intérieure ombragée par un olivier à l'est: même en plein hiver on fait le plein de lumière grâce à ces ouvertures de tous côtés.
Le plan de la maison est d’une grande fluidité, avec deux ailes principales connectées par une galerie-bibliothèque ouverte elle aussi sur une cour intérieure pavée. Le salon cathédrale, un ensemble chaleureux meublé avec le plus grand soin dans un style qui marie des pièces scandinaves des années 50 et du mobilier italien contemporain, se prolonge par une cuisine qui ravira ceux qui aiment cuisiner : séparée du salon par une paroi vitrée qui met en valeur la découpe du plafond, la cuisine est un espace convivial où préparer le déjeuner au retour du marché. Un bar ouvert sur le jardin permet d’y prendre son café, et offre un vaste plan de travail. Le four et frigidaire Gaggenau sont à l’image des choix qui ont été faits pour les matériaux de cette maison d’exception: la qualité en tout, sans jamais donner dans le gadget ou le superflu.
Dans l’aile « chambres », la suite parentale de 40 m2 est une enfilade de 3 pièces séparées par des portes à galandage, et comprend un bureau entre la chambre elle-même et une immense salle de bain. Les deux autres chambres de la maison principale, décorées dans des tons en harmonie avec l’île, ont chacune leur salle de douche, ainsi qu’un bureau et une armoire intégrée.
La maison d’amis ouvre sur le jardin principal et la piscine. Elle a été pensée comme un espace à part où les matières brutes s’accordent avec l’environnement boisé. Deux belles chambres se font le miroir l’une de l’autre, avec de grandes baies vitrées donnant sur la piscine. Elles partagent une salle de douche et des WC séparés. Là encore, chacune a son propre bureau et son armoire. Toutes les chambres de la maison principale comme de l'annexe, à l'exception de la suite parentale, peuvent êtres faites en configuration lit double (160x200) ou lits jumeaux (80x200).
Si la marée est propice, la journée commence par un bain de mer matinal : la plage est tellement proche qu’on peut y aller se baigner, aux meilleures heures, sans que ce soit une expédition : le matin avant que le vent ne se lève ou que le soleil ne soit trop fort ; en fin d’après-midi pour apprécier la douceur de la lumière ou le coucher du soleil. Ou pour l’un de ces fameux « apéro à la plage », avec une bouteille d’Arica et un assortiment de tapenades et de saucisson en provenance du marché.
A l’ile de Ré, on aime faire ses courses au marché au quotidien, et celui du Bois Plage est particulièrement prisé pour sa qualité et son éventail de choix. Le village s’est fait une belle réputation auprès des gastronomes de l’île, et attire progressivement de nouveaux commerces gourmands, dont un fromager affineur, un traiteur, un caviste indépendant et une succursale du glacier La Martinière.
La piscine fait le bonheur des petits comme des grands, ayant une taille suffisante pour y faire des longueurs. Elle est entourée d’une vaste terrasse en ipé sur trois côtés. L’orientation du jardin fait qu’il y a toujours des zones de soleil et des zones ombragées, quelle que soit l’heure de la journée. Le jardin est abrité et protégé des vents dominants – ce qui est bien appréciable pour profiter du jardin lorsque le vent est du nord.
Allongez-vous sur un transat à l’heure de la sieste et laissez-vous bercer par le son des vagues qui nous arrivent de par-delà la dune. Une fois installé il peut être dur de s’en arracher…
Si toutefois vous y arrivez, vous serez idéalement placés pour profiter de tout ce que l’île a à vous offrir : depuis les sports nautiques aux Gollandières ou à Gros-Jonc ; les visites à Saint-Martin, La Flotte ou Ars, trois des plus beaux villages de l’île facilement accessibles à vélo. Et bien sûr les pistes cyclables dans les marais, sur la côte nord ou bien encore la côte sauvage.
