Positive: We planned a long weekend two-family vacation and my wife found Ribeiros do Alqueva. The pictures were promising, so we booked it. After the booking, the owner/manager was in contact with us and she answered all questions, volunteered information and sent us an informative document, not only about the property but its surroundings and the possible activities around the area as well. (We took a few of her suggestions to heart and they did not disappoint.) We got answers to our messages very quickly and the attention to detail was superb! The property has 5 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms (one by the pool), a play room, a living room and a tv room (living room and tv room could be counted as one large room). The kitchen is very big and it has a big table that seats 8 people comfortably. It also has everything you might need to cook and eat in the house (which we did most of our mornings and nights). The pool is a rather large dipping pool, not a swimming pool. But it's very refreshing and the kids had a blast! There is a very nice covered grilling area outside, which has a large table, a faucet and sink and a very nice charcoal grill. As I mentioned, there is also a full bathroom/shower there as well. The beds were comfortable, the play room with the pool table has a bar if you fancy to play bartender and the hostess offered us a bottle of wine, and a bottle of gin from the Sharish Distillery (a partner of the property). Both were delicious and a nice, very appreciated touch. Bath towels, and pool towels are provided and they are hotel quality. Although there is a lot to do and a lot to see around, one almost does not want to leave this place! A little shopping for fresh food and beverages, a nice speaker for music and you could make it feel like a resort! The town is small, but it has a couple of markets, a couple of cafes and a restaurant, which was very good! We have more places to visit in Alentejo, and this property is a great "headquarters".
Negative: "What did you like" section is full so I continue here :) I know many people talk about air conditioning, and I would agree it could be a great addition, but considering the high ceilings, the amount of rooms etc., it might very well be cost-prohibitive and I for one would rather deal with the heat than pay more to foot the property's electric bill. Only our first night was very hot and a couple of us slept outside by the pool and it was lovely! Otherwise there are several fans that provide some cooling. Now, this is nitpicking, but I would like to add it: it would be fantastic to have a dishwasher! As I mentioned, we were 8 people, and we ate in most of the time, having to do the dishes was a let down. This is not the fault or responsibility of the property, but it must be said that the neighbors' dogs were incredibly noisy at times.
Summary: A fantastic stay. Don't think twice, just book it!
