These bright & spacious units are perfect for families, groups, or anyone who wants to have a comfortable peaceful stay in the beautiful outdoors. Surrounded by wildlife, one can simply go on a walk and take sight of the prancing deer or watch as the eagles soar across the sky.
Our property includes a beautiful gazebo located on the rear side of the hotel with a beautiful view of the Gunnison River. Our Lobby is an open space with a warm fireplace and seating. Our exterior provides picnic tables to enjoy on a beautiful day. Also located on the rear side of our property is a rustic dining area with rocking chairs and bench seating. Decorated with natural flowers and a view of the river. However, the area cannot be reserved and is first come first serve.

ACTIVITES:
THE BLACK CANYON:
According to Images of America: The Black Canyon of the Gunnison, the canyon’s name owes itself to the fact that parts of the gorge only receive 33 minutes of sunlight a day. In the book, author Duane Vandenbusche states, “Several canyons of the American West are longer and some are deeper, but none combines the depth, sheerness, narrowness, darkness, and dread of the Black Canyon. The river can also be accessed by steep, unmaintained trails called “routes” or “draws” on the north and south rim. These routes require about two hours to hike down and two to four hours to hike back up, depending on which route is taken. All inner canyon descents are strenuous and require Class 3 climbing and Hikers are expected to find their way and to be prepared for self-rescue.” A free backcountry permit is required for all inner canyon use except at the west end. The Black Canyon is a center for rock climbing in a style known as traditional climbing. Most of the climbs are difficult and attempted only by advanced climbers.
The Gunnison River is designated as a Gold Medal Water from 200 yards downstream of Crystal Reservoir Dam to the North Fork. This includes the 12 miles within the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Only artificial flies and lures are permitted, and all rainbow trout are caught and released. Additionally, fishing is prohibited within 200 yards downstream of Crystal Dam.
RAFTING:
Rafting opportunities exist in the region, but the run through the park itself is a difficult technical run for only the best kayakers. There are several impassable stretches of water requiring long, sometimes dangerous portages. The remaining rapids are class III – V and are only for expert river runners. Downstream, in the Gunnison Gorge National Conservation Area, the river is somewhat easier to navigate, though still very remote and only for experienced runners, with rapids that are Class III-IV
GOLD MEDAL FISHING:
There are many places in Delta County to cast your line to try to hook a big one. The Gunnison, Uncompahgre, and North Fork Rivers are an angler’s paradise. The more than 300 lakes on Grand Mesa provide ample room to find your favorite fishing hole. The Gunnison will not disappoint.

HUNTING:
Hunting in Delta County is a long tradition and millions of BLM acres adjoin our property and support some of the most prolific wild life hunting in the United States. The West Elk Wilderness, the fifth largest wilderness in Colorado, is located fifteen miles from the Riverwood Inn Hotel, outside of Crawford on the eastern edge of Delta County and offers some of the best elk hunting in Colorado. Deer, antelope, bear and mountain lion are also plentiful here.
MONTROSE:
With the plummeting depths of the Black Canyon National Park just to the east, the towering and majestic San Juan Mountains to the south, the expansive Uncompahgre Plateau to the west, lake-bejeweled Grand Mesa to the north, and an expansive water sports park right in the middle of town, Montrose is literally surrounded by an endless variety of prospects for exploration and adventure.
Pets are permitted for an additional fee of $35 per pet/per stay paid upon arrival.
