Welcome to your home in a cozy corner of portugal!
The house is in the "Cabo Espichel" area, in a protected National Park, about 45 min from Lisbon.
"Casa da Maria" is a traditional house that used to belong to Maria, the old famous baker of our small village. Maria used to bake bread all week in a stone-oven and nowadays the bread of Azoia became famous! Back in the day, life was quite simple here... Maria would bake bread, take care of her donkey and spend time among her beloved flowers. Now you have the chance to spend an amazing holiday at this same place, where it all started, right by the ocean!
The nature around here is absolutely amazing. At each turn you can find a different climbing spot, a new cave, or a secret beach with dolphins jumping on the horizon. The paths are flanked by colourful wild flowers and the seagulls will accompany you along the way. If you love nature and peace, this is the place to be. You can go hiking, climbing, kayaking, cave exploring, biking, or just take a fresh dive in the blue sea and sunbade on the beach.
The calmness and safety of the area makes it an ideal place for children to play and explore the nature outside, for adults to relax and enjoy a glass of wine at the sunset, and even for pets to run around free.
"Casa da Maria" is a cozy, simple, little home. All the furniture was upcycled by us, which means all the pieces are unique and have a special touch. We made everything with great care and love for you!
The kitchen is well equiped for you to cook your delecious meals.
Or if you like fish and seafood, this is THE place to be, as Sesimbra area is famous for its fish restaurants.
Big Room - The big room has view to the backyard and has a double bed.
Small Room - The small room has view to the front garden and has a single bed. A curtain separates it from the hall. The living room has a super-comfy couch and a table to share delicious meals and great moments.
The kitchen is equipped with stove, oven, fridge and everything you need to prepare delicious meals. The bathroom is spacious and has a nice bathtub and a washing machine. In "Casa da Maria" there is Wifi available, although it is not a very strong connection. We are very sorry about that. The area has so much to give that hopefully you will not need it as much.
I already have prepared tea/coffee and oatmeal. The kitchen is well prepared to have a wonderful breakfast. Also for a cooked Breakfast, it can be taken in Cafe Espigas 6min walking down the road.
In the neighbourhood you can provide yourself from local bread, eggs and cheese. There are a lot of shepperds in the area, and the cheese you eat can not be more fresh.
I would advise you to rent a car or scooter, like this you can enjoy the area on its most. If you don't, there is a bus available.
There are a few busses to the nearest city (Sesimbra), and from there, to Lisbon. The local bus can also take you to different places around. The bus stop is a 10-minute walk from our doorstep.
I have two bikes. If you use them I would like to ask you to take very well care of them. I ask a guarantee per bike.

This is a private little house, which we decided to share with guests, as we believe this is a beautiful and nice place to feel peaceful and connect with Nature.
It is not a hostel or hotel, so you should not expect a hotel service. We will try to keep everything as clean and nice for you as possible, but please keep in mind that this is an old country house in the nature, so you may find some rusty spots or a spider sometimes:)
CHECK IN & CHECK OUT TIMES – Check-in can be communicated personaly and check-out should be done until 10 am, unless differently communicated.
SMOKING – Casa da Maria is smoking-free. If you want to smoke, please go outside. There is an ashtray provided
WATER – The water from the tap is drinking water.
CATS – We have a cat named Tarzan, which is really cute and friendly. She will love to meet you.
If you want to play with her and let her in, please do not let her go to the beds and couch, as some future guests may be allergic to cats. She will try! So be aware:)
LIGHTS – When you leave the room or the house, please turn all the lights off.
FORGOT SOMETHING? - Let me know, and perhaps we have it or can fetch it for you.
BIKE – You can borrow our bikes to explore the area, however you will have to leave 50€ of guarantee. When you return the bike (in proper condition), you will receive your guarantee back.
RESPECT - Please do not disturb the neighbours and do not make loud noise after 10pm.
DAMAGES - If something breaks, please let us know. We know accidents happen and we are understanding about that. So please let us know of any damages, so we can sort it out in the best possible way.
RECYCLING – Under the sink, you can find bins bags for paper, plastic/metal and glass. Please do your best recycling the trash.
TOWELS – If your towels are wet you can sun-dry them outside on the line. If you are in need of a new one let me know.
MOSQUITOS – Mosquitos can be annoying in the summer. Keep your windows shut as much as possible or use the mosquito nets.
RESTAURANTS: There is so much to taste around here. Just choose any and you'll be satisfied.
GARDEN: The garden can get very dry in summer. Here we don't spray water all summer long to have a wonderfull green view. It gets too hot to maintain the plants this time of the year so you'l have to accept some dry flowers.
FIRE: A fire extinguisher is available.

KITCHEN: THe kitchen is well equiped to cook your delicious meals.
SHOPS: THe village has its own small supermarkets where basics are available. We also like to support them because they still have the local cheese/ bread and eggs. For big supermarkets you have to drive about 15min direction Sesimbra/ Cotovia.
BEACHES: So many beaches around here are paradisic. There are several only accessable by foot. In the house there will be information about them.
