Travel Purpose: business

Positive: We liked the rustic nature of the house, for example the shutters that opened up the upstairs space, the bathroom, and the private location in the garden. The veranda is excellent with a table and chairs, easy chair and hammock. It was where we spent all our daylight hours at the house. The shady gully location was a great bonus on hot days, and mosquitoes were fewer than we feared. The airy bedroom was a great refuge. Jerome, our host, was exceptional - very friendly and helpful and his efforts and advice allowed us to experience things we would have found difficult to do on our own. It is an easy enough walk down the hill to the (small) supermarket, car hire place and a few restaurants/roulottes. Le Napoli is especially recommended. It is bit further to walk to Uturoa town centre but we did it several times. Also a fairly steep walk back up the hill to the house, with an array of furiously barking dogs. The care hire place at the bottom of the hill (Raiatea Location) were great to deal with and will pick up and drop off by arrangement. Booking is a good idea because one day when we wanted a car there were none available (cruise ships in town).

Negative: The information supplied by the booking agency while otherwise comprehensive and helpful, was incorrect about a few things - there is no air con or TV. Also, it says to pay the provider directly which the host knew nothing about. We had to pay the agency in Uturoa and they only took cash or bank transfer despite it saying on the booking confirmation that the provider does not accept cash! Beware of mosquitoes - there is a net for the bed but you'll need repellant for sitting outside. Also, note that the stairs are very steep and would be a challenge for a person with poor mobility.

Summary: Being placed in a Polynesian town was a wonderful experience. The dance and tramping great too.
