Positive: Good location. Helpful reception staff. Check in was quick & efficient. We were not offered any help with our suitcases despite being in our 70’s! However after check out two days later we were given superb help by the lovely young Ukrainian man on reception. Sadly we didn’t get his name. The room had comfortable beds with squishy pillows and there was a fridge but no kettle for us to make tea, only a coffee machine. My husband does not drink coffee. We didn’t expect milk as the Portuguese don’t seem to drink it like we Brits. There was bottled water, juice, Coca Cola and smoothies in the fridge. There was no extra charge for them. The waiting staff in the restaurant at breakfast were helpful but seemed a bit disorganised. Great breakfasts with very good choice. The full English was good, the fruit was in top condition and there was a good choice of cereal, yogurts, soya milk etc.
Negative: We were horrified to discover that the shower cubicle opened straight from the room, next to a bedside table! If you are a couple of friends or a brother & sister travelling together there is no privacy after a shower to dry yourself! We felt this shocking design caters mainly to the ‘beautiful’ young people! We’re a married couple (of 34 years) but would still have liked a bit of privacy after our showers to do the things you need to do! At least the loo was in a separate cubicle with a wash basin. There were no hooks for bath robes or the hang towels. This gave us the impression that the hotel caters mostly for solo business travellers who are staying one or two nights only. Also as you enter the room you will find that the whole of the wall opposite the toilet room is mirrored. This was extremely disorientating! Also if you didn’t close the toilet door properly you can be observed by the other person in the room. Our first night we arrived late and were obliged to eat in the roof top bar. The spaghetti bolognaise we ordered was basic, but tasty. A small glass of red wine was over €7 which we thought was a bit steep. We found a fabulous Thai restaurant 5 minutes from the hotel to eat in for our second night which was much cheaper and delicious. Due to the layout of the rooms (no privacy) and the expensive roof top restaurant we would not stay here again.
