Anhialos has had a rapid and changing 25 centuries of old history – a Greec colony at the beginning, Magna Civitas – a prosperous town In the Roman Empire, with the privilege to coin money, a primary fortress of the First Bulgarian kingdom. In 1934 the name of the town was changed to Pomorie. The salt lake in Pomorie determines the development of the ancient craft of the population of the town – production of salt. It is considers that the salt-pans are older than the town. Pomorie is the only place, producing salt in Bulgaria till 1930. The salt lake is declared as a protected area and humid zone of international importance, as well as the dwelling place of 63 bird species, threatened with extinction. It is a spot for the birds’ migration route Via Pontic.
