Positive: The apartment was spacious by European standards and immaculately clean. Everything was new and in good working order. There were lots of modern touches, such as USB ports on the bedside tables for plugging in and charging phones and iPads, etc. The property is gated and very secure, with private parking on the patio inside the gate. It is important to have parking on site in Taormina! It was a 10-15 minute walk up a series of stairways to the Messina Portal into the old town, so it’s very convenient to the main sights and scenes and restaurants in downtown Taormina. On the same set of stairs, it was only seven minutes walk to the Funivia, the cable car that takes you down to the seaside, with access to several beaches, including Isola Bella. Traffic and the steep narrow roads are horrible, so you want to limit how much you rely on cars in this town. That makes this property especially attractive. We never met the hosts, but they were very prompt in communicating and consistent in checking in to see how everything was going. They answered all our questions and made helpful suggestions. The instructions for getting into the apartment were clear and easy to follow.
Negative: The one drawback to this apartment is that it is situated immediately adjacent to a large soccer stadium. The patio looks out onto the soccer field. Fortunately, during the three days that we were there, there was only some youth practicing on the field one afternoon and no actual game being played in the evening. There are stadium lights, and I’m sure it would be quite loud if there was a big game being played. For us, though, it was peaceful and quiet. The windows and doors are all new and double panel and relatively soundproof.
Summary: Great apartment in a very convenient location with excellent, attentive hosts.
