Lakehouse+Cottage+Studio+Bunkie 2 acres - Historic Stone Lake Erie retreat | House in Fort Erie, Canada

3 Bedroom House with Kitchen, TV and View
A uniquely historic and charming waterfront property has 3 Bedroom Lakehouse with Studio dating back to pre 1800. Restored by its architect owners, this property makes for a one of a kind, fantastic family or artist retreat, or a wonderful setting for a gathering of special friends. See "History" below for more of the story.
The Lakehouse Studio is the largest of the three bedrooms and most private, large private stone room with huge open ceiling. There is two additional upstairs bedrooms one large with a King size bed and another with lots of windows for a fantastic morning view looking over the water.
The “Great Room” 14’ x 36’ with a 13’ high open ceiling and a huge fireplace will likely be the center of your shared experience after your relaxing day on the beach and you have had cocktails in the sunroom.
The Great room also has an oversized couch and dining table to easily accommodate 8.
There is a newer kitchen with a small porch for entertaining while cooking and 2 full baths and a half bath.
Note that the smaller stone cottage we call “The West” cottage is not for rent at this time.
History:
In addition to its visual charms, you won't find another place like this. The earliest buildings are said to date to pre 1800 and the construction of the two stone structures ("The West" and "The Main") are consistent with that era. It is said that British Army officers pre and/or during the war of 1812 billeted on this site.
The large tract of property along Stockton Lane that included the Kimble Estate was purchased by Dr. Charles Stockton, a UB professor of medicine who was one of several physicians to attend to president William McKinley after he was shot (and later died) at the hands of an assassin at the Pan American Exposition in Buffalo in 1901. Anna Kimble (related and/or otherwise close to one or more Stocktons presided over this property from somewhere in the1930's to 1969. Ms. Kimble was a bohemian arts lover and supporter of the Albright Knox art gallery in Buffalo as well as other arts and cultural organizations.
Anna Kimble hosted arts events, musical performances and recitals in the Studio. We have been told (with some authority) by some who recall that the arts events held here that made for an excellent excuse for some socializing and " cocktail and wine therapy".
Pulitzer nominated playwright A. R. Gurney's mother was a close friend of Ms. Kimble and had the opportunity to know her. A. R. Gurney actually immortalized Anna as the prime character (Anna Trumble) in a play performed around the world for which this property is the actual setting. We encourage you to read the play What I Did Last Summer while you are here (we have scripts if you are interested).
