Positive: We enjoyed our stay at Ecoterra! This is an apartment in a large private complex of single-story units. No frills but fully modern (for El Salvador) and well worth it if you want a private place with a kitchen (given the alternative is mostly hostels). The bed and seating was comfortable and the host was friendly and communicative. The complex still has construction going on and it seems many of the units are still unsold, but I assume it will soon be quite bustling. The location is perfect—you don't have to deal with traffic in and out of Santa Ana to visit touristic sites (terrible traffic). We had a rental car but it's easy to call an uber or have a guide pick you up at the unit.
Negative: The main downside was that the hot water system wasn't working well and required manual effort to turn on. It wasn't a huge deal, but don't expect a powerful boiling hot shower (though in ES, you probably won't need it due to the heat outside). Also, the complex is bright at night, so we had to hang a blanket over the thin window shade to make the room darker (easy). We were the first renters and gave the host some feedback about some amenities they should add that weren't there (eg. a kitchen garbage can). We also had some trouble finding the unit when we arrived—the full address is Poligono 14 Unit 54. I suggest asking the guard at the gate how to get there when you enter because the complex all looks the same.
