The cabin sits overlooking the valley below and the Medicine Bow mountains to the East. There are a plethora of hiking trails and fishing opportunities a short distance from the cabin.
Seasonal waterfall and onsite trails via 22 West Cabins and Recreation:
-From about May until about the first week of July the 'Open A Diamond Ditch' runs behind the cabin which creates your own private waterfall.
-Check out our onsite trail dubbed "Narnia" which is marked with Monarch Butterflies and takes you to where two waterfalls merge.
-The Elk Run Trail is a great hiking trail in the summer and a packed trail in the winter for xc ski and snowshoe.
-Winter Activities: We offer sledding, skiing and snowshoeing in the winter on packed trails.
Routt National Forest access, Mount Zirkel Wilderness, and access to the Rainbow Lakes Trailhead are all less than a half mile down the road for many hiking, hunting, and fishing excursions.
The Delaney Butte Lakes are a short drive from the cabin for ample fishing opportunities.
In late summer the drive over Buffalo Pass to Steamboat Springs is a beautiful way to experience the changing colors.
We are available during your stay should you need advice about a good trail, places to see wildlife or a good fishing spot!
You step out your door and you are "there". You will love the selcusion and the views from the cabin. Wildlife abound: moose, elk, deer, pronghorn, bear, fox, marmot, raccoon, squirrel and many species of bird from the hummingbirds of summer to the rosy finches of winter.
**Check for wildlife before letting your dog outside. Thank-you for respecting the creatures here.
**Please consider mountain conditions in the winter. The driveway to the cabin is closed in the winter, and parking is 300 feet below the cabin during this time. It is a short walk, snowshoe or ski in. Travel from Walden can be difficult in a snow storm so check your weather. Please call with any questions.
Driving Directions:
From Walden take 12 West approximately 4 miles to the bottom of the hill. Stay straight which puts you on 18 West. You will go over the Platte River. In approximately 2 miles you will veer left at the Y on the road where the pavement ends. The cabin is about 7 miles from this point. Stay on 22 West and look to the west and you may see the eagle flight cage. At the row of mailboxes go right. We are 1.5 miles on the right. The GPS coordinates are 40 degrees 39' 21"N by 106 degrees 33' 54"W
-This is a dry cabin with no running water. You'll have access to clean and safe drinking water during your stay, re-fills available at the shower house
-Bathroom is via a well maintained compost potty house adjacent to the cabin, providing a clean and convenient restroom facility only steps away
-Shared shower-house is a short distance away at the 22West Headquarters
-Wood-burning stove is the main heat source, along with additional electric heater
-Wood is provided for the indoor wood stove
-Thank-you for picking up after your dogs
