An exceptional residence in the heart of the Beaujolais vineyardshe house "Aux Pierres" is located in the eponymous village of Saint Amour, one of the 10 villages of the Beaujolais crus, in Burgundy. Its history began in 1850.
It was built by Emily Chandon, of the famous Moet et Chandon Champagne family. Surrounded by vines, the estate produced wines of renown. The estate's cellars and vats were home to the grapes, which were vinified on site.
The bells of the village's Romanesque church were donated to the commune by the same family, and are still heard by winegrowers today, marking the moments of the day.
At the beginning of the 20th century, the estate was bought by the Delacour family, who continued the winegrowing activity.
In 1957, Marie-Joseph Delacour married Edouard Balladur - French Prime Minister from 1993 to 1995 - in the magnificent Romanesque church of St Amour. The reception that followed was held in the house and its grounds. "Aux Pierres" would long remain the Balladurs' second home, where they found beauty, rest and tranquillity.
Chateau Balladur", as everyone in the village liked to call it, was sold in 1980 to the Pieroth family, owners of an international wine company.
Today, "Aux Pierres" has been restored to its former glory by an Australian family who fell under the spell of this building with its rich and glorious past. The house and grounds have been completely renovated. Beauty and refinement are the watchwords of this splendid bourgeois house, whose history began 170 years ago.
