Summary: We spent two magical weeks at Maria Helena's apartment during Carnival. We could not have asked for more perfect accommodation or host. After a long flight and battling peak hour traffic, we arrived to a beautiful smiling lady, who greeted us with a big hug, freshly cooked quiche, and six pack of beers! It was bliss! We rented the apartment for Carnival and were amazed out how close we were to the action. The start of the parade was literally metres from our doorstep - it was incredible. It is also a stones throw to two great beaches, the supermarket and delicious restaurants. There were three big bedrooms. One room had two single beds. Another had a double and single bed with air con. The third had a single bed and pull out sofa. There was also a fourth smaller single room - but we didn't use it. We had five people staying in the apartment but with all the extra mattresses and sofas you could probably squeeze in a few more (if you're good friends!) There was a renovated bathroom, plus a smaller bathroom, and great kitchen facilities and laundry. It also had all the other necessities - wifi, TV, comfy living and dining area. Maria Helena was amazing too...She organised tickets to two different concerts for us, gave us lots of local advice and just added lots of smiles and humour whenever we saw her. She was great with communication - we booked 12 months out, so it was always reassuring to hear from her as we confirmed the details. Maria Helena is also very understanding...We had an accident in the bathroom- breaking the shower screen. I felt terrible telling her - but she said with a big smile - "don't worry sweetheart" and it was fixed the next day (obviously at our expense). I'd highly recommend Maria's apartment - the location is prime, it's newly renovated, and the host will warm your heart!
